Kirsten Jones
I am inspired by 'collections' of treasured objects and their remembered or imagined histories. Each piece has a subtle narrative, which I create by collaging vintage envelopes, stamps, dictionary text and maps, evoking memories of the places objects were found or bought. I paint over the richly layered surface using gesso, inks and washes of acrylic paint. Recent works include The Garden paintings where tall flowers and plants are combined with garden text and the ‘Collected Treasures’ series, where antique crockery studies are overlaid on fragments of 1937 mystery stories about a treasure hunt and a lost Chinese vase.
